Build Hive — Construction Procurement Platform

A UK construction company needed a unified procurement and project management platform to replace fragmented workflows across spreadsheets, emails, and phone calls. The system had to handle material quote requests, purchase order tracking, delivery verification, supplier management, workforce scheduling with GPS time tracking, and invoice matching — all with role-based access for admins, managers, workers, and external suppliers. The platform also needed multi-tenant architecture, Stripe subscriptions, and availability as both a web app and native mobile app for on-site use.

Built a full-stack SaaS platform using React with TypeScript on the frontend and Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions, Auth, Storage) on the backend. Designed a multi-tenant role system with custom auth claims for zero-cost security rule evaluation across 25+ Firestore collections. Implemented 16 Cloud Functions handling Stripe billing, SendGrid email notifications, Google Gemini AI features (photo-to-estimate, invoice scanning, AI construction chatbot with streaming), and scheduled delivery monitoring. Built a supplier portal with magic-link authentication for frictionless quote submissions. Migrated the entire backend from Supabase to Firebase — 20+ data hooks, 14 edge functions, 30+ page components. Wrapped the responsive web app in Capacitor 8 for native iOS and Android deployment with GPS geolocation, camera, and push notification capabilities. Achieved 72% bundle size reduction through code splitting and manual chunking.
